🔥 Fire from Heaven

And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the LORD be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word.

1 Kings 18:21

The year was 851 BC…

The nation of Israel was gathered around mount Carmel.

After a long drought and a stingy famine, the people realised something went wrong.

The place of milk and honey deteriorated beyond hope, and that, because people forsaken God, and God returned the favour.

After raising an entire nation from one man, half dead, Abraham, after rescuing them from Egypt with marvelous miracles, after dwelling in their midst, in the tabernacle, here they were, in full swing idolatry, being so far removed from reality, they could no longer discern who is the one and only true God.

Its a sad story about sinful human condition and God’s unmoved character, who always keeps the promise of His covenant.

How did God’s people come to the place of no ability to discern reality at all?

Their kings repeatedly lead them astray by following their own heart in the desire for power and prestige and inevitably getting into marriages with women from pagan nations.

This is exactly what happened with Ahab, the king in discussion at the time of Elijah’s story.

Jezebel, Ahab’s wife, multiplied the prophets of her god, Baal, and destroyed the prophets of the true God.

It took a long time for the state of the nation to become so deteriorate in order for a foreign queen to be able to do all of that in such a short time.

Small lies, become big lies, and eventually the truth is completely removed, because men who knew the truth, were silent…

Almost everyone who is accustomed with the old testament knows the end of the story…

Its a grandiose image!

Elijah challenges the prophets of Baal to a contest over sacrifice.

Their god against Elijah’s God.

They both plead for fire from heaven to consume the sacrifice, but Baal’s prophets end up in humiliation and eventually killed.

Elijah’s sacrifice being completely devoured by fire, despite of being soaked with water, stands as a symbol of God’s covenant that cannot be broken as long as there is earnest desire for partnership from the humanity’s side.

All the stories from the Old Testament stand as an object lesson, as a symbol for a bigger spiritual meaning.

The true meaning of all these symbols are starting to be unpacked with Jesus of Nazzaret coming on the scene.

All these important lessons are revealed in him and through him.

Matthew 11:13-14 KJV

[13] For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. [14] And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come.

Matthew 17:10-13 KJV

[10] And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come? [11] And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things. [12] But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them. [13] Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

Mark 9:13 KJV

[13] But I say unto you, That Elias is indeed come, and they have done unto him whatsoever they listed, as it is written of him.

To Jesus it was clear what the symbol of Elijah is, and what purpose it serves: to restore all things.

Elijah restored the knowledge of the true God,

John the Baptist restored the meaning and the character of the true God.

At the end of Elijah’s story, fire comes down to purify the land, at the end of the “Sacrifice” in the new testament fire comes down in the shape of tongues of fire over the disciples of Jesus.

The true meaning of God’s purpose for humanity was restored after Jesus’s entire ministry on earth…

Sadly, 2000 years later we find ourselves in no better condition then humanity was before…

How did we end up here???

If you’re serious about finding truth, He said, knock and it shall be opened, seek and you shall find, ask and it shall be given.

The journey is not easy or short, and you have to let go of many things you thought you know and had it figured out…

You’ll have to prove all things, both inside and outside of you.

That makes the difference between truth and deception.

Imagine a confused, dirty, babbling mad person on the street, claiming to know secrets of the world that normal people are ignornat of…

What would you think of such a person?

Crazy? Deceived? Confused?

Would you trust such an individual?

You might say its possible for the guy the be right, but would you follow that person?

The truth is you wouldn’t.

And there is a good reason for that. In order for you to trust, you need to see, well… order.

To bring order from chaos, it takes time, effort and continual focus. Its a sacrifice that is required by the laws of reality.

And I believe God honours those type of sacrifices with the spiritual fire from heaven.

We have a collection of writings preserved by God for few thousands of years now.

Yes, they’ve been tampered with here and there, but I believe God didn’t preserve it for so long to give up at the end. He is not a quitter.

The least we can do is to be diligent enough and put the truths together as in a bigger picture puzzle the makes sense with everything integrated in the right position.

Society, culture, Christianity, they brought lies into reality for a long time.

We’ve been made drunk with ideas and concepts that we cannot even imagine to be false. They make the entirety of our perspective on reality, and its very hard to reject them. But if you want to follow the Lamb, remember that He is also the Truth…and if you want to follow the truth, you have to leave the lies behind.

Take a decision now to follow Him wherever He leads you…
